Lesson 198: Elements of Worship I: Prayer

Updated: Aug 4, 2023

Full Lesson HERE

INTRODUCTION. Men have worshipped God or gods since the beginning of time. In Old Testament times the one, true God in heaven required men to offer animal sacrifices to him in their worship. Since the blood of bulls and goats could not take away sin, Jesus offered himself once as the perfect sacrifice for sin (Heb. 10:1-18). Today Christians are commanded to offer up spiritual sacrifices (I Pet. 2:5) and to present their bodies as a

living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God (Rom. 12: 1 ).

Shortly after the church was established on the day of Pentecost, the followers of Christ "continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers" (Acts 2:42). Today we follow this example in our worship to God and include singing which is commanded in other scriptural passages. Prayer is the subject for this lesson.
