Lesson 222: Isaac And Rebekah

Updated: Jan 23, 2024

Gen. 24

Full Lesson HERE

INTRODUCTION. When Isaac was a young man, God told Abraham to take his son, his

only son Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah. There he was to offer Isaac as a burnt offering upon the mountain. Moriah is a mountain in Jerusalem where Solomon many years later built the temple (II Chron. 3:1 ).

This command seems to be incredibly strange, but God was proving Abraham's faith. God had promised Abraham that his descendants would be a great nation, and this nation would come through his son Isaac. Yet now God commanded the death of this son and heir of the promise before the promise could be fulfilled!

What was Abraham's response to this puzzling, heartbreaking ordeal God required of him? Abraham obeyed. Why? "By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up lsaac ...

Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead ... " (Heb. 11:17,19).
