INTRODUCTION. After Philip preached to the Samaritans, an angel of the Lord spoke to

him and instructed him to go toward the south, the way from Jerusalem to Gaza, which is “desert.” Philip must have been puzzled, for he was commanded to leave a city where

many people were obeying the gospel to go to a lonely road in uninhabited territory.
